I am also using Windows 7 64 and Office 2010 64 (with Outlook). I tried this one, but it did not work either. PS also using 64 bit Windows 7 and 64 bit Office. Next time I opened outlook it said it wasn't the default and would i like it to be. Now that the damaged key is gone, put a good one in its place. Verify that you want to delete the key and then close the Registry Editor. Peruse the folders to locate the HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLIENTS\MAIL\MICROSOFT OUTLOOK key. The Registry Editor will appear on-screen. Open the Start menu, select Run, type regedit in the Open field, and click OK. The only way to resolve this problem is to delete and replace the corrupted key. If all else fails, you may have a corrupted key in the Registry (a database of user preferences and system settings in Windows). I used the solution offered by MS in relation to outlook 2002: It was caused by MobileMe trying to sync my contacts, but it happened with other programmes.
